My Birth Story
At the age of 16 I met this guy at the dance. My friend asked me to go with her and
her boyfriend. Her boyfriend had a friend and she wanted me to meet him, so I
went. I didn’t think it would be a problem. I met him on a Friday. We danced all
night. We talked a lot and I thought he was really funny a good respectful
person. I decided to give him my number. When the dance was over my friend gave
me a ride home. The next day my family and I went to Colorado Mountain College.
I was walking out the door when I
heard the phone ring. I answered it was him. He asked me if I wanted to go out
with him for a ride on his motorcycle. I was excited because I had never ridden
on one. I said yes but that I had other plans. He asked if we could meet and I
told him around 3:00pm at cmc earlier and I saw him go up the hill on his
motorcycle. I told my mom what was going on first she wasn’t ok with it but then
I called him and told him to meet me at my aunt’s house in Glenwood. When he
arrived I presented him to my mom. She thought he was a good guy and she gave me
permission to go with him and we left. I was really scared at first but I had
lots of fun ridding the motorcycle with him. It was getting late and he took me
back to my aunt’s house. That’s where my mom was waiting for me to take me back
home. That’s when our relationship started. We went out a lot. He would come to my house and we would
do everything together. For my 17tth birthday party all my friends from school
went we had a lot of fun I was happy and excited.
Then I realized I was pregnant it heart breaking news for me. I was young and thought
that I had a whole life ahead. I felt like it ended there. I didn’t find out
until I was about one month and two weeks pregnant. I didn’t have any symptoms
only that I didn’t get my period for a month. I knew I was sexually active, so I
was scared. When I missed my period the first thing I thought was being
pregnant. I called my boyfriend and told him that I was pregnant. He was
surprise he said “ugh…when are we getting married?” My mom was really upset,
mostly because she let me go out where ever I wanted to, and she trusted me. I
guess I went too far and took her trust to another direction. She was
disappointed and my dad was even more.
He got up and I wasn’t going to school I was too sick to go and he asked my mom
what was wrong with me. She said I was sick, but he started questioning her, and
she told him that I was pregnant. He wouldn’t believe her and that really got to
me because he told me he was disappointed in me. His words broke my heart.
Mostly because we were so close.
As time went on I was 5 months pregnant when I moved in with Omar. Our relationship was good. We were glad to be
together and we were excited because the baby’s sex was going to be a surprise.
Even when I really wanted to know I couldn’t because she never let herself get
seen. When I was 8 months pregnant that’s the doctor told me it was going to be
a girl. I was excited because it was going to be the first granddaughter for my parents my sister has 2 kids but
they are both boys. Omar and I moved to in New Castle. At first it was bad
because he worked all day and I was lonely and bored. I had a doctor’s
appointment. It was August 24 and I was 3 centimeter’s dilated. To make my labor
faster the doctors ripped some tissues. It made me bleed. My mom went with me to the doctors appointment. On our way back home she was only
going to drop me of but she stayed with me because she thought I could go
through labor any minute. The doctor told me to walk so I would dilate. My mom
and I walked all around New Castle. We went to the park and played basketball.
We were on our way back home and we decided but instead to walk more. We went to
the gas station and on my way there I had to pee, so I held it until we got
there. When I went to the bathroom my pad was full of blood. I didn’t have an
extra one, so my mom grabbed a lot of toilet paper. I put it on my underwear but
I just kept on getting wet. That’s when I showed my mom. She said that my water
had just broken. I was freaking out because we were at the gas station. I wasn’t
feeling any pain yet, I just couldn’t walk right. I was walking like a duck from
side to side. When I got home I took a shower and left for the hospital. When I
got there it was around 11 o’clock night. I was really uncomfortable and moody.
When I got to my hospital room I left a urine sample in the bathroom. I had to
take all my clothes off put on a dress that they gave to me. They checked how
much I was dilated. I was stills only 3 centimeters dilated. I couldn’t sleep
because they put a monitor on me for the baby’s heart beat and pulse. By 7:00 am
in the morning a nurse came in. She checked me and said that everything was
still the same. I had to get medicine to help my contractions get stronger. I
had to go through labor soon because my water had already broken. I walked
around the hospital until I couldn’t anymore. My back was hurting really bad. I
went in the tub for about 20 minutes. I got out and walked some more. My water
wasn’t fully broken so I had to get it torn by the doctor again. After that my
labor went fast. What seemed to take hours took a couple of minutes. The
struggle was worth it. I had a wonderful baby girl how’s name is Yareli. Yareli was born at 5:34pm August 25,
2011 and weighed 6 pounds and 9 ounces, she was 21 inches
long.
When I had her my life changed completely now I can’t only worry about me. There is another person to take care
of. For me she is the greatest thing and I am so happy. I didn’t take the easy
way out of my problem because that’s not fair. You have to take care of the
problems you get yourself in to. You don’t always know how to handle them but
just saying. I am going to give my child away or by saying I am going to have an
abortion just because I am too young to have a baby. I think it’s wrong if you
are too young to have sex, then why you would be too young to have a child of
your own. You have to learn how to be responsible and handle your own
problems.
